Bearded Collie Dogs are popular pets in different countries of the world. There are a number of clubs the Bearded Collie lovers join to promote the breed. Clubs are called to educate people on the breed and encourage responsible breeding of high quality Bearded Collies. Clubs organize many activities, which are not only dog shows, but also working tests, education days, agility events and fun days for Beardies and their owners. Bearded Collies - Breed History
Bearded Collies were developed in Scotland as herding dogs. The Poland Lowland Sheepdog and the Komondor are mentioned as the Bearded Collie Dog's ancestors. The breed was created as an independent thinker and worker. It had to be relatively independent of the shepherd that could be miles away.
The Kennel Club of Great Britain recognized the Bearded Collie Dog as a separate breed in 1959. The AKC recognized the breed in 1977.
Bearded Collies - Interesting Facts
The Bearded Collie is one of the oldest dog breeds of Britain and is sometimes called as the Highland Collie, the Hairy Mou ed Collie or the Mountain Collie. The first litter of Bearded Collies was born in the USA in 1967.
